Roofing and solar in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is Duke Energy Florida.

The roofs

St. Pete’s housing is older and closer together than Brandon’s. Lots are tight, roofs are cut up, and the bungalows have been added onto. Flood zones change how you think about the house, but the roof problem is still wind, water at the walls, and underlayment age. Tile, metal, and shingle all appear within a few blocks downtown and along the avenues.

The solar

Duke is the utility. Shade from mature trees and neighboring two-story houses is the production limit on many lots. A smaller array on the unshaded plane beats a drawing that ignores the house next door.
